Convert image to PNG when you need a lossless file that keeps transparency and opens in every editor. Drop in JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, SVG, HEIC or ICO files and each is saved as a PNG in your browser, without uploading anything.
PNG stores every pixel exactly, with an optional alpha channel for transparency, and nearly every editor, office suite and design tool reads it. That makes it the format to hand to software that refuses newer ones: older editors and office versions without WebP or AVIF support, many slide and document tools, and any workflow where the image will be edited and saved several times. A WebP sticker with a transparent background, saved from a website, comes out as a PNG with the same transparency, ready to place on a coloured slide.
Because PNG is lossless, re-saving it after edits never adds compression damage, unlike a JPG that degrades a little on every save.
Lossless has a cost for photographs. A 12-megapixel phone photo of 2–3 MB as JPG or HEIC commonly becomes 15 MB or more as a PNG, because PNG has to store the sensor noise and fine texture that lossy formats were built to throw away. For screenshots, diagrams, logos and pixel art the picture reverses: large flat areas compress well, and a PNG of a UI screenshot is often smaller than a high-quality JPG of the same screen, with crisper text.
There is no quality slider on this page because PNG has no quality setting; the pixels decoded from your file are what get stored. Any loss that happened when the original was saved as JPG, WebP or HEIC is already baked in and cannot be undone by converting.
Files are sorted by their first bytes rather than trusted by name. JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP and SVG are decoded by the browser and drawn to a canvas; HEIC goes through libheif compiled to WebAssembly, loaded only when a HEIC is in the batch; ICO files are read entry by entry and the largest icon is kept, copied out unchanged when it is stored as PNG inside the icon.
Animated GIF and WebP files give you their first frame. SVGs are rasterised at their declared size with the longest side capped at 4096 px, so a 24×24 icon SVG becomes a 24×24 PNG; raise the width and height in the SVG first if you need a larger bitmap. Colour is stored at 8 bits per channel, so 10-bit HDR detail in an AVIF or HEIC is flattened.
All of this runs in your browser tab. The images are read from your device, converted in memory and returned as PNG downloads, singly or as one ZIP; none of them is sent to a server, and closing the tab discards everything. Up to 30 files fit in a drop, 50 MB per file, and each image is converted on its own so one damaged file does not block the others.
