Add a picture and it is mirrored left to right straight away; press Flip V as well if you need it upside down. The flip is drawn onto a canvas in your browser and saved into the pixels, so the result looks the same in every viewer, app and upload form. JPG, PNG, WebP and BMP files are accepted, up to five at a time.
Flip H swaps left and right: what was on the left edge ends up on the right, as in a mirror. That is the one most people need, and it is why this page applies it the moment the first picture loads. Flip V swaps top and bottom, which turns the picture upside down but keeps left and right where they were. That is not the same as rotating by 180°. A rotation turns the whole picture around its centre, so text stays readable when you turn the page over; a vertical flip produces mirror-writing upside down. Pressing both Flip H and Flip V together does equal a 180° rotation, which is handy to know if a scan came out the wrong way up.
Iron-on transfer paper and sublimation prints are the classic case. The design is printed onto the transfer and pressed face down onto the shirt or mug, so it has to be printed mirrored or every word comes out backwards. Flip it here, download it and print it at full size.
Selfies are the other common one. Many phones show the front camera as a mirror and some save it that way too, so a logo on your shirt or a sign behind you reads backwards. One horizontal flip fixes the text. Bear in mind that your face will then look the way others see you, which can feel odd because you are used to your reflection. Designers also flip product shots and portraits so the subject faces into the page instead of out of it.
Flipping moves pixels around without adding or removing any, so width and height stay the same. The file is re-encoded on export, though. PNG output is lossless; JPG and WebP follow the quality slider, which starts at 92. Our 1200 × 800 test JPG of 224,092 bytes came back at 222,800 bytes after a mirror flip at quality 92, with no visible difference. Same as original keeps the input format, except BMP, which the browser cannot write and which therefore comes out as PNG.
The export does not copy EXIF data across, so camera details and GPS coordinates are left behind. That is usually welcome for a photo you are about to post, but keep the original if you need the capture date later.
The image is decoded, flipped and encoded inside the tab you have open. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and closing the tab discards everything. Each file can be up to 50 MB, and when you have several, the same flip is applied to all of them and Download all bundles them into one ZIP. You can also paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V instead of saving it first.
