HEIC to PNG Converter

Most of the time, converting an iPhone photo means going to JPG, since it is smaller and universally accepted. PNG is the right target instead when a workflow specifically needs a lossless file — a design tool that will re-save the image repeatedly, a document template that expects PNG, or any pipeline where you cannot afford the small quality loss JPG introduces on each save.

It also matters when the photo has been edited into something with transparency, such as a subject cut out on an iPhone before conversion — PNG preserves that alpha channel, which a JPG cannot store at all.

HEIC is genuinely efficient: a typical iPhone photo saved as HEIC runs around 1.5–2.5 MB. The same photo decoded and written out as PNG, with no compression loss at all, commonly lands at 8–15 MB — a five-to-tenfold jump — because PNG cannot use the same aggressive prediction techniques HEIC relies on for photographic detail.

That size is the price of an exact, lossless copy. If the destination will accept a small amount of quality loss, JPG gives a far smaller file for the same photo; PNG is worth the size only when losslessness or transparency is the actual requirement.

The visible image comes through pixel-for-pixel — colour, detail and sharpness are identical to what the HEIC decoded to, since PNG adds no compression artefacts of its own. What does not survive is anything HEIC stores beyond the still frame: Live Photo motion, a portrait-mode depth map, and HDR gain-map data are all iPhone-specific extras that a flat PNG has no way to hold, so the result is a single ordinary still image.

The HEIC is read and converted to PNG locally in your browser, so a personal photo never travels to a server to make the conversion happen, and no copy is kept once you close the tab. That also means a whole album converts about as fast as your device can process it, with no upload queue in the way — add a batch of HEICs and download the PNGs individually or as a ZIP.
