Need a WebP as an ordinary photo for an upload form, a print service or an app that only accepts JPG? This converts it to a JPG any device will take, in your browser and without uploading. Transparent areas are placed on a white background, since JPG has no transparency.
WebP is common on the web, but the offline world still runs on JPG. Passport and visa upload forms, print labs, older phones, point-of-sale and photo-kiosk software, and many apps accept JPG and nothing newer. When one of them rejects your WebP, converting to JPG is the fix.
It is the universally accepted photo format, and for a photograph it produces a smaller file than PNG would, which matters when a form caps the upload size. So JPG is the right target when you need a photo that simply works, rather than a lossless or transparent one.
JPG uses lossy compression, so converting from WebP writes a new JPG at whatever quality you choose. For photos that is rarely a problem: at a quality setting around 85 to 90 the result is hard to distinguish from the source, and you can move the slider down to squeeze under a size limit or up to keep more detail for printing.
Bear in mind you are going from one lossy format to another, so it is worth keeping quality reasonably high on the JPG to avoid stacking compression artefacts. For a full-frame photo, a WebP of a couple of hundred kilobytes typically converts to a JPG of similar or slightly larger size at high quality.
JPG cannot store transparency, so if your WebP has see-through areas — a logo, an icon, a cut-out — they are flattened onto a solid background during conversion, white by default. For a photograph that fills the frame this is irrelevant; for a graphic meant to sit on a coloured page it will show as an unwanted white box. When you need to keep transparency, convert the WebP to PNG instead; choose JPG only when a plain background is fine or the image is a normal photo.
The WebP is decoded and re-saved as JPG on your own machine — nothing is uploaded, and no copy is retained once the tab closes. That is reassuring when the JPG is going into an official form alongside personal details, and it keeps the process quick because there is no upload wait. Convert one image or a batch, adjust quality to fit the destination’s size limit, and download the results without creating an account.
